eMCees You Need To Know: Jon Mercure
Its almost a disservice calling this guy merely an MC… This nigga sings, and produces as well and recently started messin’ around with video…I’ve known Merc since he was a teenager talkin shit when we worked at Mulate’s back in the G, and seeing how far he has come has been a remarkable thing.
He first hit the scene as part of the underground group Illdren along with Cutta, Ali Shaboc, and producer Bless, who left the group after their debut EP.Now a trio, Merc assumed the role of producer of the group, and began crafting soulful beats for the 3 to rock over. After a while he hooked up with the subject of my 1st installment of EYNTK, Lyrikill, and became part of the Eupham collective, performing at spots around the city and making a name for himself as both MC and Producer.
Merc has put out solid solo material in his own right, with each project exhibiting growth as both MC and Producer. From the “Four Finger Ring, to Finger Paint, to the most recent Surrender To Win, each project seemingly better than the last, yet all can stand on their own as solid albums.
Currently part of the Inner Recess family, Merc was featured on and produced Nesby Phips’ “Midnight Oil” off of his classic The B Side Phipstape, has worked up at Dame Dash’s DD172 Studios, and has completed work for up and coming MCs E.D. Nix, Tha Cartel, Brando, The Goonz, to name a few. Be on the lookout for this incredible talent. Hit the links attached 2 see for yourself… Don’t say I didnt tell you!!!!
